Maintaining the highest food safety and hygiene standards to combat COVID-19
In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Grain family has stepped up all precautionary measures to keep our food and humans safe.
Doubling down on food safety and hygiene
On a usual day, we clean our kitchens, wipe our countertops, clear our bins, and sanitise the place. Now, we double the frequency and make it mandatory to sanitise common areas, especially more susceptible parts like switches and door handles.
Installing hygiene tools and cues all around Grain
Hand sanitisers. Posters on proper handwashing techniques. Tissues. Gloves. They are everywhere we need them to be. On top of their daily duties, our procurement team ensures these hygiene supplies are readily available.
Enforcing travel and health declaration
Everyone at Grain has to declare their travel history, visitors too. Anyone who feels unwell has to stay at home and inform our People Ops Associate, Marcus. They are given the Leave of Absence and will have to monitor their temperatures for 14 days.
Registering all visitors and taking temperatures
Our operations team has built a makeshift registration booth with a wooden table, an orange clipboard, and all the hygiene supplies we need. Visitors have to register, sanitise their hands, and have their temperatures taken here.
Conducting food safety lab tests as usual
Every dish our Food Product Team designs — our newly appointed Flu Manager, See Hui, gets a sample and sends it for food safety lab tests before we launch them. She also does routine tests on existing dishes to make sure our food is within safe limits set by Singapore Food Agency (SFA).
Enforcing masks and gloves for all food handlers
All our chefs, food dispatchers, Auntie Yeo from the pastry kitchen — they wear masks and gloves whenever they are handling food. We have now extended this rule to all frontline staff, including our Catering Specialists.
Following food safety guidelines strictly
When our chefs prepare food, they follow the Singapore’s food safety standards strictly. Head Chef Fredrick briefs all newcomers and performs routine checks to ensure all kitchen staff handles food the right way.
Stay safe, everyone.
